What is Qareen in Islam?
+
Qareen is a jinn companion that Allah assigns to every human being at birth. It stays with the person throughout their life and whispers negative thoughts to encourage them toward sin and away from Allah. This is confirmed in the Quran in Surah Qaf, Surah Az-Zukhruf, and Surah An-Nisa, and in the authentic Hadith of Sahih Muslim.
Did the Prophet Muhammad have a Qareen?
+
Yes. The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him confirmed in Sahih Muslim that he had a Qareen, just like every other human being. He also said that Allah helped him against his Qareen so it only called him toward good. This shows that having a Qareen is not a sign of spiritual weakness. Every person has one.
Is Qareen the same as Hamzad?
+
No. Qareen is an authentic Islamic concept mentioned by name in the Quran. Hamzad is a term from South Asian and Persian spiritual traditions and does not appear anywhere in the Quran or in authentic Hadith. They are not the same thing. Scholars advise Muslims to stick to what the Quran and Sunnah say about this topic and not mix Islamic belief with cultural folk practices.
Can the Qareen be removed or killed?
+
No. The Qareen cannot be removed, killed, or separated from a person. It is assigned by Allah and stays with the person until death. Anyone who claims they can remove your Qareen through any method is making a false claim. What you can do is reduce its influence through worship, dhikr, and maintaining a strong connection to Allah.
Can you control or communicate with your Qareen?
+
No. There is no Islamic method for communicating with or controlling your Qareen. The Qareen is a jinn and Muslims are prohibited from seeking help from jinn or trying to contact them for personal purposes. Anyone offering to teach you how to access or use your Qareen is promoting something outside Islam and possibly leading you into harm. Stay away from such people and practices.
Does my Qareen become Muslim when I accept Islam?
+
There is a scholarly discussion on this point. Some scholars, based on a Hadith narration, believe the Qareen of a Muslim also becomes Muslim and begins calling them toward good rather than evil. Other scholars say this was specific to the Prophet only. Both views are held by recognised scholars. The practical advice is the same regardless - strengthen your iman and your Qareen will have less and less negative influence over you.
How do I protect myself from the influence of Qareen?
+
The most effective protection is consistent worship. The five daily prayers, morning and evening adhkar, recitation of Ayat al-Kursi after every prayer and before sleep, regular Quran recitation, and saying Audhu Billahi when a bad thought enters your mind. Scholars say that the more connected you are to the remembrance of Allah, the weaker the Qareen's ability to affect you becomes. There is no other shortcut.
Are bad thoughts always from the Qareen?
+
Not always. Scholars identify three sources of bad inclinations in a person: the nafs, which is the self that can incline toward evil, the Qareen which whispers from the jinn world, and external shayateen who also whisper to people. Not every negative thought comes from the Qareen. Some bad thoughts are simply from your own lower desires or from the influence of your environment. Taking personal responsibility is important alongside understanding spiritual influences.
