Surah Al-Waqiah, meaning "The Inevitable" or "The Event," is the 56th chapter of the Holy Quran. Bismillah
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Verses 1-3
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ ۝ لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ۝ خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ
Itha waqaAAati alwaqiAAat. Laysa liwaqAAatiha kathiba. Khafidatun rafiAAa.
When the Occurrence occurs, there is, at its occurrence, no denial. It will bring down [some] and raise up [others].
Verses 4-6
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا ۝ وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا ۝ فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا
Itha rujjati al-ardu rajja. Wabussati aljibalu bassa. Fakanat habaan munbaththa.
When the earth is shaken with convulsion, and the mountains are broken down, crumbling, and become dust dispersing.
Verses 7-9
وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ ۝ فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ۝ وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡــَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡــَٔمَةِ
Wakuntum azwajan thalatha. Faas-habu almaymanati maas-habu almaymanat. Waas-habu almash-amati maas-habu almash-amat.
And you become [of] three kinds: Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?
Verses 10-12
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ۝ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝ فِي جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
Wassabiqoona assabiqoon. Ola-ika almuqarraboon. Fee jannati annaAAeem.
And the forerunners, the forerunners - those are the ones brought near [to Allah] in the Gardens of Pleasure.
Verses 13-16
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ۝ وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ۝ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ ۝ مُّتَّكِــِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ
Thullatun mina al-awwaleen. Waqaleelun mina al-akhireena. AAala sururin mawdoona. Muttaki-eena AAalayha mutaqabileen.
A [large] company of the former peoples and a few of the later peoples, on thrones woven [with ornament], reclining on them, facing each other.
Verses 17-19
يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ ۝ بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ ۝ لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
Yatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoon. Bi-akwabin waabareeqa waka'sinmin maAAeen. La yusaddaAAoona AAanhawala yunzifoon.
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal with vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - no headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated.
Verses 20-23
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ ۝ وَلَحۡمِ طَيۡرٖ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ ۝ وَحُورٌ عِينٞ ۝ كَأَمۡثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ
Wafakihatin mimmayatakhayyaroon. Walahmi tayrin mimmayashtahoon. Wahoorun AAeen. Kaamthali allu'lui almaknoon.
And fruit of what they select and the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, the likenesses of pearls well-protected.
Verses 24-26
جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ۝ لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمًا ۝ إِلَّا قِيلٗا سَلَٰمٗا سَلَٰمٗا
Jazaan bima kanooyaAAmaloon. La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwanwala ta'theema. Illa qeelan salaman salama.
As reward for what they used to do. They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - only a saying: "Peace, peace."
Verses 27-30
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ۝ فِي سِدۡرٖ مَّخۡضُودٖ ۝ وَطَلۡحٖ مَّنضُودٖ ۝ وَظِلّٖ مَّمۡدُودٖ
Waas-habu alyameeni maas-habu alyameen. Fee sidrin makhdood. Watalhin mandood. Wathillin mamdood.
The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed and [banana] trees layered [with fruit] and shade extended.
Verses 31-34
وَمَآءٖ مَّسۡكُوبٖ ۝ وَفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ ۝ لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةٖ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةٖ ۝ وَفُرُشٖ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ
Wama-in maskoob. Wafakihatin katheera. La maqtooAAatin walamamnooAAa. Wafurushin marfooAAa.
And water poured out and fruit, abundant [and varied], neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, and [upon] beds raised high.
Verses 35-38
إِنَّآ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءٗ ۝ فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا ۝ عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابٗا ۝ لِّأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Inna ansha'nahunna inshaa. FajaAAalnahunna abkara. AAuruban atraba. Li-as-habi alyameen.
Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation and made them virgins, devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, for the companions of the right.
Verses 39-40
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ۝ وَثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
Thullatun mina al-awwaleen. Wathullatun mina al-akhireen.
A company of the former peoples and a company of the later peoples.
Verses 41-44
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ ۝ فِي سَمُومٖ وَحَمِيمٖ ۝ وَظِلّٖ مِّن يَحۡمُومٖ ۝ لَّا بَارِدٖ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
Waas-habu ashshimalima as-habu ashshimal. Fee samoomin wahameem. Wathillin min yahmoom. La baridin wala kareem.
And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water and a shade of black smoke, neither cool nor beneficial.
Verses 45-48
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ ۝ وَكَانُواْ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ۝ وَكَانُواْ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝ أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ
Innahum kanoo qabla thalikamutrafeen. Wakanoo yusirroona AAalaalhinthi alAAatheem. Wakanoo yaqooloona a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon. Awa abaona al-awwaloon.
Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, and they used to persist in the great violation, and they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? And our forefathers [as well]?"
Verses 49-52
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ۝ لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ ۝ ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ ۝ لَأٓكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٖ مِّن زَقُّومٖ
Qul inna al-awwaleena wal-akhireen. LamajmooAAoona ila meeqatiyawmin maAAloom. Thumma innakum ayyuha addalloonaalmukaththiboon. Laakiloona min shajarin min zaqqoom.
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, will be eating from trees of zaqqum.
Verses 53-56
فَمَالِــُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ۝ فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ ۝ فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِيمِ ۝ هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ
Famali-oona minha albutoon. Fashariboona AAalayhi mina alhameem. Fashariboona shurba alheem. Hatha nuzuluhum yawma addeen.
And filling with it your bellies and drinking on top of it from scalding water and will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.
Verses 57-60
نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ ۝ أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ ۝ ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ ۝ نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَيۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ
Nahnu khalaqnakum falawlatusaddiqoon. Afaraaytum ma tumnoon. Aantum takhluqoonahu am nahnu alkhaliqoon. Nahnu qaddarna baynakumualmawta wama nahnu bimasbooqeen.
We have created you, so why do you not believe? Have you seen that which you emit? Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone.
Verses 61-62
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِي مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
AAala an nubaddila amthalakumwanunshi-akum fee ma la taAAlamoon. Walaqad AAalimtumu annash-ata al-oolafalawla tathakkaroon.
In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?
Verses 63-65
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ ۝ ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّـٰرِعُونَ ۝ لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ حُطَٰمٗا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ
Afaraaytum ma tahruthoon. Aantum tazraAAoonahu am nahnu azzariAAoon. Law nashao lajaAAalnahu hutamanfathaltum tafakkahoon.
And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder.
Verses 66-67
إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ ۝ بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ
Inna lamughramoon. Bal nahnu mahroomoon.
[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; rather, we have been deprived."
Verses 68-70
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَآءَ ٱلَّذِي تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝ ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ ۝ لَوۡ نَشَآءُ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ أُجَاجٗا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ
Afaraaytumu almaa allatheetashraboon. Aantum anzaltumoohu mina almuzni am nahnualmunziloon. Law nashao jaAAalnahu ojajanfalawla tashkuroon.
And have you seen the water that you drink? Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
Verses 71-74
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِي تُورُونَ ۝ ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِــُٔونَ ۝ نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَمَتَٰعٗا لِّلۡمُقۡوِينَ ۝ فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
Afaraaytumu annara allateetooroon. Aantum ansha'tum shajarataha am nahnualmunshi-oon. Nahnu jaAAalnaha tathkiratanwamataAAan lilmuqween. Fasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem.
And have you seen the fire that you ignite? Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, so exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
Verses 75-77
۞فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ ۝ إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانٞ كَرِيمٞ
Fala oqsimu bimawaqiAAi annujoom. Wa-innahu laqasamun law taAAlamoona AAatheem. Innahu laqur-anun kareem.
Then I swear by the setting of the stars, and indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great. Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an.
Verses 78-80
فِي كِتَٰبٖ مَّكۡنُونٖ ۝ لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ ۝ تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Fee kitabin maknoon. La yamassuhu illa almutahharoon. Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen.
In a Register well-protected; none touch it except the purified. [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Verses 81-82
أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ ۝ وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Afabihatha alhadeethi antummudhinoon. WatajAAaloona rizqakum annakum tukaththiboon.
Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent and make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?
Verses 83-87
فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ ۝ وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ ۝ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝ فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ ۝ تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
Falawla itha balaghati alhulqoom. Waantum heena-ithin tanthuroona. Wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walakinla tubsiroon. Falawla in kuntum ghayra madeeneen. TarjiAAoonaha in kuntum sadiqeen.
Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat and you are at that time looking on - and Our angels are nearer to him than you, but you do not see - then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed, bring it back, if you should be truthful?
Verses 88-91
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ ۝ فَرَوۡحٞ وَرَيۡحَانٞ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٖ ۝ وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ۝ فَسَلَٰمٞ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Faamma in kana minaalmuqarrabeen. Farawhun warayhanun wajannatunaAAeem. Waamma in kana min as-habialyameen. Fasalamun laka min as-habialyameen.
And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah, then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure. And if he was of the companions of the right, then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."
Verses 92-94
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ۝ فَنُزُلٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ ۝ وَتَصۡلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
Waamma in kana mina almukaththibeenaaddalleen. Fanuzulun min hameem. Watasliyatu jaheem.
But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray, then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water and burning in Hellfire.
Final Verses (95-96)
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ۝ فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
Inna hatha lahuwa haqqualyaqeen. Fasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem.
Indeed, this is the true certainty, so exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
